Is it considered another axle?
Yes. When traveling the turnpike with weight on it, it will be picked up as an extra axle and you will be charged accordingly.
Does this mean that I can tow more than the recommended weight for my vehicle?
No. The Trailer Toad, though a weight bearing receiver that allows the tow vehicle to pull the trailer and not haul it, does not give the tow vehicle the ability to tow a heavier than recommended load. It does make it possible to tow the max load safely keeping the tow vehicles front wheels firmly on the road allowing more full steering and breaking stability and reducing the risk of structural frame damage to motorhomes used for towing.
Does it reduce sway?
Properly installed, it will reduce the amount of sway that is passed on to the tow vehicle. It will eliminate most all bounce from being transferred from the towed trailer to the tow vehicle; thus retaining full road surface contact between the front wheels maintaining all steering and braking capabilities.
What is the weight capacity?
The unit will the 8” wheels is rated for up to 2,000 lbs tongue weight. The 10” tire unit is rated for up to 3,000 lbs. tongue weight.
How do you back it up?
Simply hook up the reverse lock bar to a pin on the axle and that will lock the axle. This creates a solid frame and backing up your trailer is done like the Trailer Toad isn’t even there. Simply unhook the reverse lock bar and you are ready again.
Warranty?
Ninety days from date of delivery on all non-wear items. Looking at the structure, it is evident that only the best materials and components were used in the construction of the Toad. Fifteen test Toads were used for 2 years with over 20,000 miles put on each. There were no tire, bearing or hub assembly failures.
